— Taking a tour of a simulated drunk-driving crash could be a real eye-opener for area students.

Reality Journey, a re-enactment of an underage drinking party that leads to a fatal drunk-driving crash, is being held for its seventh year in Collier County as a part of the Red Ribbon Campaign.

Every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 21 through Oct. 23, and 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22, tours will be given showing what can happen when the choice is made to use alcohol and other drugs before driving a motor vehicle. Reality Journey aims to serve as a deterrent to this poor and sometimes deadly choice, according to news release from the Collier County School District.

Reality Journey, a community collaboration sponsored by the school district, Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Drug Free Collier, will take place at Unity Church, 2000 Unity Way, behind Seacrest Country Day School, off Davis Boulevard in East Naples. Each tour can accommodate up to 25 people and lasts about 30 minutes.

Groups of students will move through several scenes including the crash, an arrest, a court appearance, parents’ responsibility and the suffering of victims impacted by the event. At the end of the presentation, someone who has actually suffered a personal loss at the hands of drugs or alcohol will tell students on how it affected their life.

To learn more, call Debra Ogden, coordinator of Safe and Drug Free Schools for the Collier County School District, at 377-0128 or via e-mail at ogdende@collier.k12.fl.us.
