S. Fort Myers man accidentally shoots himself in big toe

A 27-year-old South Fort Myers man accidentally shot his big toe Thursday afternoon, Lee County Sheriff’s Office reports show.

Samuel Angel Maldonado, of 17520 Devore Lane, was “handling” a 32.-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun when “the gun went off accidentally and the bullet struck him in the foot,” according to the report. He threw the gun into bushes near the house, where deputies found it.

Another person in the house heard the gunshot and ran downstairs where he saw Maldonado with the wound. The other man called 911.

Maldonado was taken to a hospital for treatment.

No further information was available.

Sooo, is this a police report or a medical report? The world is crumbling down around our ears and NDN has the time and manpower to waste on these fluff pieces.

Way to go Maldonado. You shoot yourself then throw the gun into the bushes. Another fine upstanding citizen of the community.

He wanted to be the hero of the week by taking a bullet and telling every body someone shot him. Smart ahhh???

OMG this is almost as stupid as that guy in East Naples driving with the snake on his neck, and when the snake gave him a hug, he nearly crashed his car.

DUH....was that MY snake trying to hug me or kill me?

DUH..WAS THAT MY BIG TOE? OW!

He must be a McCain supporter. Palin would be proud of his excellent shot!

"#3 Zen, I'm sorry, but he's only a nominee at this time."
Yeah, there's still a few months left in the year. We can get at LEAST 10 more of these ding-dongs in that amount of time. :) Besides, he'd have to shoot of a few more pieces to beat the "DUH!!!" of the guy who decided to go kite-surfing during Tropical Stom Fay. Seriously, this toe-shooting sounds like something that Les Nessman would have run on WKRP as 'hard hitting news' during the farm report.

then throw the gun into the bushes

The criminal mentality is to get rid of the evidence.

I'm not a criminal so I guess I'm guilty of not knowing the correct way to get rid of evidence. If the need arises in the future I’ll ask you though.

#12 Posted by RedRyder on October 10, 2008 at 3:15 p.m. (Suggest removal)

If he really want to ditch the evidence why not throw the toe into the bushes also?

#13 Posted by swampbuggy on October 10, 2008 at 3:42 p.m. (Suggest removal)

He accidently shot himself - no big deal, feces happens. I suspect I know why he disposed of the gun though - probably on probation and isn't supposed to own or have a gun I suspect.

In that case, he was probably registered to vote by ACORN, which would make him an Obama voter beetlejuice.

I can't believe that this is news worthy! It's not even funny. I can understand if there was some humor to it but come on! Some idiot shoots himself in the toe and it makes the news?

islandgal, it happened about two years ago,(guessing) and it made AP news..I think he was driving on Davis Blvd, when his pet snake constricted his neck, and he pulled over, jumped out of the car, removed pet snake and fled the scene from what I can recall. Makes Beetle laugh every time there's a pet snake, or read about guys shooting themselves in toe. He lost a lot of brain power with that shot if you know what I mean!

Are we sure this just wasn't the Ron Popel $19.99 wart remover?

You call this a story? Everybody knows the "Big Toe" shot is a gimme. Now if Sleepy had pulled off the the tricky "Little Pig that had Roast Beef" shot, that'd be newsworthy. I can only encourage him to keep practicing.

americanpie, the world is crumbling down? Get a grip. If you think this is crumbling down then I don't think you could make it through real world turmoil.

Beetle, your comments used to be good but you have joined the rest of the losers. Too bad.

NYEM, you really do have a problem with your ethnicity. My God get over yourself.

I don't know what is in the Naples water this week....
