Humane Society of Naples offers free spay, neuter for 50 pit bulls

— The Humane Society of Naples will spay or neuter 50 pit bull dogs for free.

Each dog accepted into the program will also be able to receive a free heartworm test and a free rabies vaccine if needed, which is a total value of about $300 for each dog, according to a Humane Society of Naples press release.

This offer is made possible by community members and private donors who are concerned that pit bulls comprise a major percentage of homeless dogs in most communities, the press release states.

The total value of this service is estimated to be about $15,000, according to Andy Reed, Director of Development for the Humane Society of Naples.

Pit bull owners participating in this program are responsible for any requested pre- or post-operative care costs above the normal routine surgery.

Owners who want this service must call the Humane Society of Naples' Animal Clinic at 643-2143 to make an appointment for the service.

what's wrong with people today, every post to every article is mean and hateful. frankz, I don't care for this breed myself as a companion pet, but your post is out of line. if that's truly the way you feel about animals in general, then why don't you hop on that truck yourself and lead the way.

Frankz is just a unhappy, pathetic person who lives in his closet when he is home. He probably doesnt have anyone in his life because he is so cruel and hateful. I would love to take him for a ride to the everglades and dump him for alligator dinner, then we would no longer have to read his pitiful, sick and inhumane comments.

Why not just set up a booth at Cambier park this Saturday? Advertising is all about reaching the right audience and this is a homerun. Bring your knife and do it right on the spot. Maybe some of the local merchants will give a free drink ticket to participants.

I dislike the breed also, but why would the governments efforts of spaying this breed be highlighted?

All dogs should be spayed at some point.

The Humane Society is not the government, as far as I know they are non-profit independent.

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
