NAPLES A 2008 Immokalee High School graduate has earned the AP Scholars Award in recognition of her achievement on Advanced Placement exams.
Kristin Dimas completed AP exams in biology, environmental science, calculus AB, English language and composition and English literature and composition. She averaged a 3.4 on her AP exams.
Research shows that AP students who score a 3 or higher on their exams - based on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest score and any score above 3 considered passing - typically experience greater academic success in college and higher graduation rates than students who do not participate in the AP program.
The AP program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous, college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit. About 18 percent of the 1.6 million students worldwide who took AP exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.
Dimas is now a freshman at Florida State University.
