Letter of the Day: Where we go from here

Editor, Daily News:

With less than a month to the election of a new president of the United States, I hope that whoever the winning party is will act in a bipartisan way.

I hope they make an effort to solve the problems we have with our financial institutions because of the mismanagement and greed of persons who controlled these institutions.

I hope that both Democrats and Republicans can put aside their political differences and join together in an effort to get our country and our financial institutions back operating as they should — not giving mortgages to persons who are not able to or do not intend to repay these mortgages.

We have to make the people who are running our country understand that there are no more free lunches. The money-printing presses are shut down till we get ourselves out of this boondoggle and we are back on sound financial ground.

At 82 years of age, I still remember my father telling me: Son, you have to have a buck before you spend a buck.

Robert F. Breaker, Naples

She is the one

Editor, Daily News:

I have known and admired Carla Johnston since helping her successful campaigns in Sanibel, where her City Council record is studded with successful team building, constant outreach to other voices and creative answers.

Today, our Lee County government faces new unstable and trying challenges in multiple areas. We must sharpen all the old tools (which Carla knows inside and out) and make friends to find new tools (which Carla is really good at). We need new energy, new insight, new ideas.

I believe Carla Johnston is our best hope for commissioner in Lee County,

District 1.

S.R. Maxeiner Jr., M.D., Fort Myers

In civilian clothes

Editor, Daily News:

When Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott is in uniform, he isn’t representing himself; he is representing the people and government of Lee County.

If Scott wanted to speak as a citizen, he should have done so in civilian clothes.

Lest you think I am an Eddie Filer-Jane Varner liberal, think again.

I already cast my absentee ballot for John McCain-Sarah Palin.

Andrew Laviano, Naples

Like in Alaska?

Editor, Daily News:

If Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott is so big on middle names, one wonders why he didn’t use Sarah Palin’s.

Was he afraid that she might get him fired?

Dick Ovington, Naples

Look who’s talking

Editor, Daily News:

I was shocked to hear Gov. Sarah Palin charge Congress with “abuse of power” at a rally.

Her charge was based on her “opinion,” while the “abuse of power” charge against her was the result of a lengthy, bipartisan investigation.

Now, isn’t that a case of the pot calling the kettle black?

What audacity!

Flo Beckler, Naples

Like fire ants

Editor, Daily News:

Mike Scott called someone by full name. Oh yes, he was in uniform.

Now, how many other things you can invent? Keep trying and maybe you can accuse him of being a bigot/racist.

You liberals are like fire ants in Florida — full of venom and attempting to poison us when someone opposes your views.

Lo and behold, WINK-TV continually showed his speech and added more venom — yes, doing the right thing to destroy America. Sure, the media will deny biased reporting, but reading through the lines is so obvious.

What happened to freedom of speech? Did his speech dump Amdro fire-ant killer on the hive of the fire ants? I’m sure this will generate more venom from grovelers.

So, go ahead, spit it out, for I’ll just buy more Amdro.

Roger Trobec, Bonita Springs

Bush the elder

Editor, Daily News:

Let’s put George Bush back in office — not “W,” but his dad.

The elder Bush called Ronald Reagan’s trickle-down economics “voodoo economics.” Some $10 trillion of debt says he was right on.

The elder Bush decided not to remove Saddam Hussein from power after destroying his army in Kuwait. It’s now obvious that was a very smart move.

The elder Bush allowed a tax increase and lost his re-election bid. President Clinton continued sound economic policies and the 1990s went on to be the greatest period of economic growth in our history. I say we put George Bush the elder back in office for another term.

I don’t know about you, but I sure enjoyed the roaring 1990s.

William R. Foster, Naples

Which side is what counts

Editor, Daily News:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is unqualified to be vice president, but Bill Clinton, governor of Arkansas, and Jimmy Carter, governor of Georgia, were?

And Barack Obama, with no known history of accomplishments, is qualified for president?

Sounds quite strange and truly partisan to me.

Helen Danielson, Naples

Oh, is that so?

Editor, Daily News:

Re: Insurance company regulation.

Sen. Barack Obama has effectively stated that, if elected, he will go after the insurance companies to reduce — or not increase — their rates.

The senator is not aware of, or chooses to ignore, the fact that in 1944 President Franklin Roosevelt signed Public Law 15, which placed insurance regulation in the hands of the (then) 48 states. To this date, only the states can regulate the insurance business.

Perhaps the senator knows all this but proposes to change the laws and turn regulation of insurance rates over to the federal government.

If so, what about recent federal control over other financial institutions? Does he really believe the federal government has done such a great job?

Charles C. Hewitt Jr., Naples

Ready to rumble

Editor, Daily News:

Re: Second presidential debate.

They sound like they do not like each other.

Dignitaries of other countries everywhere can say Americans are so fed up with each other, they make war among themselves.

Marie Dekkers, Naples

Not over just yet

Editor, Daily News:

It was a pleasure to read Jeff Lytle’s Oct. 5 opinion column, in which he quotes Steve Lohan, candidate for Bonita Springs Fire Commission.

Steve addresses the firefighters’ union-backed fire board members who decide the salaries and pensions of the union, saying: “The union has to understand that the party is over.” But is the party over?

Commissioner Bob Paterson has taken a $500 campaign contribution from the firefighters union just this month. It is very obvious that Paterson has no intention of changing his fiesta relationship with the union. And isn’t this how we corrupted our government and how the economy of towns, villages, cities and the country has fallen into the bankrupted condition that we are facing today?

I am voting for Lohan for Bonita Springs Fire Commission, Seat 4. Steve and his family have lived and worked in Bonita Springs for 24 years.

He will do what is right for the citizens of Bonita Springs.

Neil Arnal, Bonita Springs

Tax referendum is prejudiced

Editor, Daily News:

I was very disappointed with the Collier County schools tax referendum as proposed on my sample ballot. There are words of “opinion” on the ballot which should never be there. To call the proposal “neutral,” and to say the proposal is “providing more efficient and effective use of public school funding while remaining tax neutral,” is an opinion statement and should never appear on a ballot.

It is the responsibility of this newspaper’s editors and organizations like the League of Women Voters to express opinion and to describe the results of referendums which are proposed. Opinions have no place on a ballot.

It is like recommending a vote for John McCain or Barack Obama next to their names on the ballot.

Our language is much more useful than as used on our ballot.

Gene Wheeler, Naples

It might get worse

Editor, Daily News:

Re: Reaction to my Sept. 3 letter to the editor, criticizing Planned Parenthood for much of its livelihood being from its termination of the unborn.

It was said that I judge women who have had abortions. To judge not only the woman who suffers mental and physical anguish, but all others that have pressured her into taking life, is up to a higher power than us.

It is portrayed by some that the one in the womb is something other than a child. I have a photo of a 10-week-old victim of an abortion. It is definitely, without a doubt, the image of a human child. To see its look of unmitigated terror in its blank eyes would change anyone with the slightest compassion from being pro-abortion to pro-life. Photos of this absolute brutality can be obtained online at abortion.com.

Of the critical letters to the editor, there was not one mention of adoption. There are more people waiting to adopt than there are children to adopt. Adoption should be less bureaucratic, less expensive with thorough background checks. Hence, fewer people going to foreign countries to adopt.

There are millions of little lives hanging in the balance in this coming election. Sen. John McCain is pro-life. Sen. Barack Obama has said he would not punish his daughter if pregnant. I assume, as indicated by his anti-life voting record, he would abort his own grandchild.

Such insensitivity toward life is overwhelming.

Gordon Skrede, Naples

Super service

Editor, Daily News:

I e-mailed Collier County Manager Jim Mudd the other day.

I requested some emergency medical information for a person (me) just home from brain surgery.

A few days later I was visited by the chief of Emergency Medical Services, Jeff Page.

He stopped by after church!

In the most profound, comforting manner, he assuaged my concerns and provided me with helpful information.

Here is a leader and healer!

And thanks to Mudd. May you lead forever and continue to be recognized for his dedication.

God bless all of you!

John Cunningham Sr., Naples

Why not build up?

Editor, Daily News:

Is the following concept just too simple to work?

If the federal government took just $100 billion (a lot of money) and declared they would hire 1 million to

2 million unemployed persons, at possibly $40,000 to $50,000 per year, who would only be assigned to rebuild bridges and roadways throughout the United States, wouldn’t this immediately pump up our economy?

These are the people who would now have money to pay their mortgages, buy cars, etc., resulting in cascading employment in other industries and services. The money could be doled out to states based on their unemployment rate, population and other pertinent factors.

I guess that’s just too simple an idea for our government to implement. Better to just give the money to Wall Street.

Hy Bershad, Naples

Burt is better

Editor, Daily News:

Re: Support for state Sen. Burt Saunders for U.S. House of Representatives.

I am delighted to have a candidate who I can support with enthusiasm to replace an incumbent who does not deserve to retain this seat.

I reached this conclusion because of the admirable track record of Saunders in representing this area in the Florida Legislature and the abysmal record of Rep. Connie Mack IV in the U.S. House.

Mack seems to feel this position is his birthright and that he doesn’t need to campaign to retain it. He refuses to participate in campaign debates because he doesn’t think he has a viable opponent. Never mind that his constituents deserve to hear his views on current issues and his plans to address their concerns.

I visited his office in Washington and was treated with indifference, bordering on rudeness displayed by a staff member. This attitude would never have been tolerated if it did not emanate from the top, reflecting how Mack feels about the voters in his district.

Although he was elected to represent the residents of Southwest Florida, he chooses to spend his time in Southern California, a great distance from the issues we face daily. How can he have firsthand experience of our problems if he doesn’t watch our local news and read our local papers?

It’s time to replace Mack, a member of the old-boy network and supporter of the current administration. He is clearly part of the problem, not part of the solution.

I encourage you to vote for change by casting your ballot for Burt Saunders.

Suzanne Herman, Naples

He’s the real thing

Editor, Daily News:

Don’t let Barack Obama, with his great smile and silver tongue, fool you.

Our enemies would love to have Obama elected. What does that tell you, my fellow Americans? Please do not be fooled by promises he makes that he will not be able to keep.

I am an ex-Democrat who sees the value in John McCain.

McCain is a patriot and hero and there is absolutely no doubt he loves our country. Please give him a chance to help us and our country be the “best” again.

His age should not be a concern, as there are numerous older leaders and businessmen currently serving our country.

Henry R. Dawson, Naples

We were (not) there

Editor, Daily News:

The most famous ballpark in America, the New York Yankees’ stadium, has seen its last game after 85 years.

Here is a Yankee Stadium story that baseball fans find difficult to believe.

It was the summer of 1939. Yankee Stadium was 16 years old. So was I. My friend Norman Lyons and I were driven by his mother to Short Hills, N.J., not too far from home.

We arrived at a luxurious home. Norman’s mother was a lifelong friend of Hazel Weiss, who lived there with her husband George Weiss, the general manager of the New York Yankees, who was home at the time. He rushed us into his office and proceeded to point out hundreds of baseballs in glass cases. I recall his talking endlessly with stories of the history of each of those signed baseballs. All we could do was listen.

Later in the evening, he took a business card and gave it to us. He said, “When you are in New York call me at this number and I will see you are taken to my private box free as often as you want.”

We were both 16.

I liked college football because my father had played it. Norman liked soccer because he played it.

We never used Weiss’ business card. We never called him. At Yankee Stadium, some of the most famous men in America played on — without us watching! And we could have watched in one of the best-of-the-best seats in the house.

Once in awhile these days I tell this story to friends. They find it hard to believe that we didn’t call.

Just think of how we could have seen the New York Yankees play.

The Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles in the last game at that storied place. The televised game showed a number of famous plays from the past — maybe some from the summer of 1939.

End of story.

Robert Farson, Naples

Make a statement

Editor, Daily News:

I’ve always agreed with the old saying: “Don’t vote for a third-party candidate; you’re wasting your vote.”

For the last few years, that has meant voting for the lesser of two evils. However, in this election, there is a difference. A vote for either major party candidate is wasted. It’s a choice between socialism — Marxism, in fact — or four more years of the policies that caused this economic crisis we’re in now. One evil is not less than the other.

So a vote for either is thrown away. So why not voice an objection by voting for a candidate who represents America as the Founding Fathers intended it? He can’t win, but we can say, “This is what we really want.”

Give a thought to Bob Barr for president.

Arthur M. Hale, Naples

The ’clump’ is coming

Editor, Daily News:

After the second debate and the failure of the best that Sen. John McCain could do, I guess the writing is on the wall!

We have undereducated, at great extent, the masses and we deserve this — just like the Clinton years!

The saving grace is that four years of the Barack Obama/Joe Biden clump, coupled with a Democrat-controlled Congress, will ensure a conservative Republican leadership for the next 20 years!

Good things take time and it is just a matter of time as this country rights itself!

If this isn’t a recipe for term limits in Congress, nothing is!

God bless America!

Larry Brennan, Naples

That sinking feeling

Editor, Daily News:

I wish someone could explain to me how the Treasury came up with the $700 billion figure which magically will turn our (and the world’s) economy around?

Would $699 billion not have been sufficient? Or did he consider asking for $701 billion? How did he arrive at $700 billion?

Apparently, it will inject greater liquidity in the banking system, yet at the same time banks are re-evaluating their credit standards.

And while this is going on, people are being laid off and must reduce their spending habits. Automobile dealers, furniture stores and clothing emporiums feel the reduced demand — even having special sales and incentives are not drawing customers to open their wallets. Credit cards are maxed out or limits are being reduced. How much has been set aside for credit-card debt?

So, if a major manufacturer then faces bankruptcy due to lack of sales, will the government step in to provide a bailout? We have seen it in the past with Chrysler and now a $25 billion aid package to the automobile industry.

Where and how will this end? People have lost confidence in the future; all are tightening their belts and postponing or delaying their optional expenditures.

But fear not — “On my first day as president, I will ... .”

John Domenie, Naples

Where, why did they find her?

Editor, Daily News:

I was wrong.

At first I thought that the Republicans had chosen Gov. Sarah Palin to introduce her to America and prepare her for a possible run for the presidency in the future. An odd choice, I thought, but she’s young enough.

I reconsidered when I was told on good authority — and not surprisingly — that the educated, wealthy and powerful Republicans who run the party laugh and sneer about her privately — only privately, mind you, for after all, they want their party to be elected and will do what it takes.

Does she know why she’s been chosen? Does she know that she’s the “fall guy” or “fall woman”? She seems to happily, winkingly and willingly read the hateful scripts she’s been given to deliver.

I wonder if she knows what she is saying. Probably not. She seems to be enjoying the ride and adulation without a thought of how demeaning and unpresidential she looks.

I feel sorry for her. I don’t think she is considering her future and how this will be used against her and possibly dash her lofty dreams.

If the Republicans win, they can safely stow her away where she will do no harm. If they lose, she can simply be sent back to Alaska.

Not another round of Big Daddy Bush, Mr. Foster, for me. If you look back on history you'll see that the Bush administration was pretty chummy with Saddam Hussein right up until the moment his troops crossed the Kuwaiti border.

And we didn't go to war because we wanted to free Kuwait, we went because of our oil interests in the Middle East and because the Saudis petitioned us to do something about Saddam. Moreover, we didn't pursue Saddam after forcing him out of Kuwait because the Saudis and just about every other Arab nation would have turned their hand against us, the infidels.

Economics for the servicemember wasn't that great under Big Daddy Bush either. As a diesel mechanic I was often tasked with repairing and/or maintaining trucks and trailers with little to no parts and broken tools. And I had to go to war without a lot of stuff that by TO I should have been issued. You know what I had to use as a substitute for binos? A gun sight/scope that I had gotten out of a bombed out Iraqi tank.

There was also a few times during my service when funding ran out long before the fiscal year was up, and we were sweating about whether we would be getting any more government money for parts and equipment, and in some cases, it looked like the Marines themselves would have a few paydays with paychecks.

Intersting final thirty seconds in the debate.

Obama moves around his side of the desk to shake Sheefer's hand. McSame follows Barack, realizes his mistake, quickly turns around to go the opposite direction while sticking his tongue out in a goofy fashion.

Then when leaving the stage, OBAMA graciously waves his wife in front of him and follows her off stage. McSame jumps off center stage to meet the audience, all the while leaving his wife standing there awkwardly.

Interesting.......

Seriously, what authority, seriously, who?

Mini me mcsame must hate this country. Isn't that what all the neocons said when PRESIDENT OBAMA did not wear a flag lapel pin?

LOL.

You only have three weeks left before being thrown off the world stage. Then it's all aboard the neocon short bus of failure for the long ride back to Crawford and Phoenix.

There are this morning several rich young grandchildren devestated by events. Grandma promised to keep their cranky, crazy gramdpa in Washington for four more years. Now that he and his policies have been so soundly rejected, he will be returning home to Phoenix.

Give it six months after his mauling in the election and you will be reading about Cindy filing for divorce. Because of the fact that she was denied the oppurtunity to strut around the White House in her $300,000 dresses, she will be settling for the next best thing, Sven, her tennis instructor.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

- MLK

So, let's talk about the content of Hussein's character:

Rezko, oops.
Ayers, oops.
Dohrn, oops.
Klonsky, oops.
ACORN, oops.

My, the list is already long and it goes on, which should say a lot to you about the character of this young, inexperienced empty suit.

LOL.

#11 Posted by boulderbilly on October 16, 2008 at 10:01 a.m. (Suggest removal)

naplesbob, you have got to be kidding. For how long have we been talking about ACORN? So McCain gave a speech at an ACORN immigration event vs. Hussein gave $800,000 at a time when ACORN was really starting to stink.

No wonder you want Hussein. Your eyes are so clouded by the Messiah that you think one speech is embracing voter fraud (and paying $800,000 for it.)

What a laugh.

#12 Posted by GoneFishin on October 16, 2008 at 10:12 a.m. (Suggest removal)

naplesbob, you seem awfully confused. What was 18 about?

Yes, giving a speech and giving $800,000 illegally is a bit different in my book, especially since Hussein is so close to ACORN.

That you can't see it says a lot about the things you will overlook just to get an empty suit in office. Pretty sad.

#13 Posted by GoneFishin on October 16, 2008 at 10:31 a.m. (Suggest removal)

naplesbob, you are really confused. At which point did ACORN start getting investigated in so many states? After the 2006 speech. When did Hussein stop illegally giving money to ACORN? Last May.

McCain's appearance at an ACORN immigration event is a non-issue.

Obama giving $800,000 to ACORN illegally is a big issue.

BTW - why is Hussein trying to erase all connection of himself with ACORN? Speaks volumes about the content of his character.

Groutesquely inappropriate to use the subject he lied about, but that was his choice. It also exemplifies his complete lack of character.

Getting back to the content of character, the Rezko / Obama land deal was 3 years ago, while Rezko was under investigation and it involved money that Rezko was hiding from the government.

That speaks to Obama's bone-headed character.

#17 Posted by GoneFishin on October 16, 2008 at 11:13 a.m. (Suggest removal)

naplesbob, and all the naked photos of Palin are just such wonderful examples of the democrats being the ultimate two-faced liars.

Keep dreaming.

McCain speaking at a event is a non-issue.

Obama claims his executive experience is managing a multi-million dollar campaign.

Obama is running the campaign that illegally gave nearly a million dollars to an organization he knows all about.

Get your blinders off and vote for McCain!

We have many posts that state the country is run by Presidential advisors. The president will be the glad hander that does all the PR work. This is how it has worked for years. The President will make the final decisions based on advisor’s recommendations.

One of the most important issues will be concerning Iran and it’s nuclear ambitions.

This started when Iran “tested” Jimmy Carter by taking US hostages at our embassy. Iran passed the test and cast the US as a paper tiger, not worthy of respect.

This lead Jimmy to our first oil crisis and decimated our economy.

We must not be a paper tiger when dealing with Iran like Jimmy did.

ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI WAS THE CHIEF FOREIGN POLICY ADVISOR of JIMMY CARTER, the person that got the middle east into it’s oil blackmailing state and ruined our economy for years and had unemployment sky high.

Brzezinski views the world as a maxrist would. Marxism and Islam have much in common despite Karl Marx’s goal of eliminating churches. Both are universalistic ideologies that fight against nation-states.

Brzezinski was a promoter of Islamic fundamentalism to fight against Soviet Russia by subversion from it’s southern borders

Brzezinski helped Islamic fundamentalists overthrow the Shah of Iran. Through his insistence, the Shah was replaced with Ayatollah Khomeini, as Islamic fundamentalist as you can get..

BARACK HAS CHOSEN ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI AS HIS CHIEF FOREIGN POLICY ADVISOR. He is similar to Baracks other “mentors” and “advisors”. Marxists like to stick together. That’s why Brzezinski was Barack’s choice.

Does this make sense to have the person who ORCHESTRATED the start of the middle east fiasco, be instrumental in SOLVING it?

Just an opinion.

Canuck,

Did you find your post with 9 1/2 weeks from start to surgery? And with surgery taking place one week after diagnosis?

Who is more despicable? Person who lies about a medical situation to falsely promote a political position, or one who points out that the statements were lies?

Again, you are more than welcome to state you may have been "in error". Up to you.

#25 Posted by Bricklin75 on October 16, 2008 at 1:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)

jen

why do you have an interest?

As far as finding the post, I have found one. And why the name calling? That seems to be a “liberal” trait.

The point is not to expose canuck. The point is he should act like a man and admit he may have been wrong.

As I mentioned previously, a family member in need of a miracle was taken to Asia for an experimental procedure many many years ago. Family members got together and some mortgaged homes to make it happen because insurance typically has a miracle exclusion.

When canuck wrote:

“ ........... .and it did not cost one dime..except for parking...now YOU MAY BE ABLE TO BETTER THE TIME FRAME IN THE US but if you did not have insurance..for which you pay a pretty penny..YOU WOULD HAVE TO MORTGAGE YOUR HOUSE TO PAY FOR IT”“”“”“” ............... that’s what we did, unselfishly, and what he wrote hit me the wrong way.

He was speaking about a time sensitive affliction. Now I don’t know about you, but my own wife or child is worth my home. I’d even throw in the cars & boats. He just impressed me a very callous, insensitive, unloving individual. And to degrade an individual by lying about that situation to make a political point on an internet forum is disgraceful.

Just an opinion.

"I'm still laughing at GoneFishin #33.
What an impressive link. It has all the logic of a 10 year-year-old.

Environmentalists talk about pollution to water in a residential area, not rural.

It would still take the same amount of water to grow them regardless of the use of the crops.

Your link forgot that it rains.LOL """"

Even a city dweller knows that much of the land growing corn for ethanol has been taken out of soil bank. This is where the land was not tilled but plants were grown to nourish that soil and never harvested. No fertilizers are used.

When in cultivation, herbicides and fertilizers are used. They are watered by irrigation systems with water from underground or the surface or from rain fall as you brilliantly noted.

Most farming operations have what is known as field tile. This a a drainage system throughout a field that helps drain the water from the fields. It keeps the field from getting muddy where the tilling or harvesting equipment can operate. Some are designed so that water can be pumped into the tiles in drought conditions.

These tiles drain into drainage ditches, which drain into creeks, then into rivers, then into large rivers and eventually the Mississippi.

The water that comes from the fields with corn growing contain the herbicides & fertilizers that were used on the fields. They are the "rural" polution that created the dead zone in the Delta.

The water that goes through soil bank land is not laden with chemicals, whereas corn growing fields do. So the soil bank drainage is not harmful to the environment and helps dilute the harmful drainage.

Not all water ends up in the Gulf, but lets say a few trillion gallons do.

Hopes this helps jennifer, but you could have learned it from a 10 year old.

I see JenSab is on the way to getting banned again. Nice work.

Can anyone tell us why Obama's executive experience at his campaign led him to give $832,000 to ACORN illegally?

Canuck,

You insisted it be posted.

No apology needed or expected.

GuiltyYourhonor...what a bunch of crap you are posting about Canada's health care..who are you working for..I saw the very biased video posted by an advocate for "for profit "health care...there is no one that has an emergency such as described in the video that waits months for MRI's or months to see a specialist..believe me I have just come through a situation where my wife was detected to have a "mass" in her adomen the last day of november..she had an ultra sound the next day....a CT scan in the next ten days...a CA125 blood test three days later...referred to a gynocologist specialist with an appt Dec 15th...referred to a gyno/oncologist with an appt for Jan2....had a battery of test at one of the top 5 cancer hospitals in the world the 2nd week of Jan....and had an MRI in 2 weeks at the end of Jan...follow up with the oncologist to confirm ovarian cancer feb 12th and surgery scheduled for Mar 4th and completed...

and it did not cost one dime..except for parking...

now you may be able to better the time frame in the US

but if you did not have insurance..for which you pay a pretty penny..

you would have to mortgage your house to pay for it

and if you had insurance and some pencil pusher in the head office allowed you to have the tests how would the cancer surgery and follow up impact on your health care cap....in the video subjects case it would appear he just wanted to jump the line and now he wants the Ontario taxpayer to pay the exhorbiant US clinic charge.....as I have said many times our health care system is not perfect but everyone is covered regardless of status and no one has to lose everything they worked for all their lives because of a devastating illness...so spare us the very biased videos from people with very definate agendas

Jen

La La La

I read article.

I assume Canuck will be like you and deny deny deny not true not true not true all while whimpering in the corner.

You progressives can be very strange.

Noticed I used YOUR word progressive.

First it was "use socialist, it sounds better than communist"

Then it was "use liberal, it sounds better than socialist"

Now it is "use progressive, it sounds better than liberal"

I must admit I like Billy Ayers approach

He admits he is a Communist with a small "c"

Why is the media spending more time on Joe the Plumber than the fact that Obama, as head of his campaign, gave nearly a million dollars to ACORN illegally? Why illegally? Why not just right out front with it? What is Obama hiding?

That's the problem, Obama is hiding a lot of things. Why?

Obama won last night's debate. McCain sounded desperate and didn't make much sense. Obama sounded much more presidential. I do believe that McCain is on his way out. He doesn't sound like presidential material. We need Obama to begin correcting the mistakes of the past administration.

Our beautiful soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin is also would be better at leading our nation in the future after a McCain Presidency than Senator Barak Obama would be in leading our nation in the future starting in January 2009 because of three areas which are as follows: ideology , experience, and accomplisments. Ideologically she is a conservative. Experientially she has two years of executive administrative governing experience . When it comes to accomplishments she accomplished 3 major things which are as follows: government reform, the state budget and the economy, and wise use of natural resources. She reformed government by standing up to the big oil companies by breaking up the monopoly on power and resources. She insisted on competition and basic fairness which ended the control that the oil companies had on the state, and thereby returning control of the state back to the people. She lead well in the state budget by generating a surplus which came about by vetoing a half billion dollars of wasteful spending. Economically under her leadership she brought about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history. She also suspended the state fuel tax, and when oil and gas prices went up dramatically, and filled up the state treasury, she sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged - directly to the people of Alaska . On natural resources she has shown great leadership by beginning a nearly forty billion dollar natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence, so please vote John McCain for President and give to our beautiful soon to be Vice President Sarah Palin the opportunity that she deserves leading the nation into the future after a John McCain presidency.

Jen,

What is the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Don't you even know what you are?

Ask Bernie Sanders. He is the founder.

Bricklin75....I do agree that the Mar 9th post is mine and while I do have some embarrassment there is an explanation of the "missing" four weeks.....

our visit to the first gynocologist on 12/15 while not confirming cancer indicated as much and after his nurse arranged our appointment with the cancer hospital we decided in the next couple of days to not follow through until after the holidays in order not to ruin the family Christmas

the January 2nd appointment was cancelled until the 11th when we had the battery of tests....therefore I eliminated the 12/16 to 1/11 as our decision to delay and did not count that in the timeline

I admit the post does confirm your statement and the only excuse I have for not posting the holiday span was that at the time my wife was still in intensive care

I am not a liar...... and if I was lying I would not have been so adamant with my remarks in lieu of those August posts...I honestly believed the 9 1/2 weeks

I do concur I was wrong on the one week cycle...my wife's diary confirms the three week span...I guess it just seemed like one week

therefore, Bricklin75 I apologize for the misinformation of that Mar 9th post as you had every right to believe it was as you said

and I ask the lenience of fellow posters

however, I did not intend to deceive anyone on purpose and it's your decision to take this at face value

Well, no contest. Obama won the debate hands down. He was cools, anwered all of McCains dumb attacks about ACORN and Ayers, gave his tax plan which does not raise taxes for couples making under 250,000 dollars a year. In fact, he cuts their taxes 3 times more than Mccain.

McCain doesn't think the big shots who created a lot of our problems in the market and made boogles, MCain doesn't think they got enough so he wants to cut their taxes. Well isn't that nice?

BTW Joe the Plumber is not a plumber, and besides how many plumbers make over 250,000 dollars a year.

McCain looked like a nasty, grouchy old man that had nothing to offer. His demeanor was not that of a president.

I'm not the only one who thought Barack won. The polls show he won big time.

Go Obama!!!! Go President Obama!!!

#30 used Sean Hannity as his reference and proof that ACORN is a subversive group. That convinces me, by golly, that fair and balanced news group always tells the truth. I guess my simple theory that this was another Republican vote caging effort has to be wrong.

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
