— Gulf Coast advanced to the semifinals in Class 5A-District 15 by downing visiting Cape Coral 25-10, 25-6, 25-5.

Holly Reschke led the Sharks (25-3) with 15 kills. Karina Mambuca had six kills and four blocks, while Nikki Guidish had 12 digs.

“It was a good game,” Gulf Coast coach Christy Wright said. “We started slow, we were not very focused but played better at the end. We’re trying to work on our passing, and I thought we did a good job.”

Gulf Coast plays Barron Collier, which beat North Fort Myers 25-12, 25-6, 25-9. The game will be played at Gulf Coast, instead of the host site, North Fort Myers, at 7 tonight.

Meghan Cautero had 36 assists for the Cougars. Emma Joseph had nine digs, and Christine Mansour had 13 kills.

“We played well and we executed the game plan,” Barron Collier coach Nick Sweat said. “It helped us get ready for Gulf Coast, the biggest game of the year.”

Cape Coral-Baker won a five-setter with Cape Coral-Mariner, 15-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-14, 15-7, to advance to the other semifinal. The Bulldogs will face top-seeded Fort Myers, which defeated Lehigh 25-9, 25-5, 25-12.

CLASS 4A-12: Naples High sailed through the first two sets and survived the third, defeating Palmetto Ridge, 25-7, 25-7, 25-22, to advance to the district championship game against Golden Gate.

Nina Schmidt led the Golden Eagles (20-5) with 10 digs, seven kills and four aces, while Marissa Baker had eight kills and four digs. Samantha High contributed seven kills.

“Games 1 and 2 went great,” Naples coach Rich Hubbard said. “However, in Game 3, we showed our youth. It was a tight game. After a slow start, we got into the game and played well.”

Golden Gate (18-7) needed four sets to down Lely, 25-12, 25-20, 24-26, 25-12.

Melissa Romulus had 17 kills and eight service points for the Titans, who will play 7 p.m. Thursday at Naples for the district title.

Naomi Andre had 14 kills, Marjorie Eldira had seven kills and five aces, and Claudia Cabrera had 32 assists for the Titans, who are seeking their first volleyball district championship.

“We’ve made some adjustments to our lineup,” Golden Gate coach Kim Kaye said. “Games 1 and 4, we executed well. Game 3 we lost intensity and focus. Overall, I was pleased with the performance.”

CLASS 4A-11: Estero fell in a tough five-setter Tuesday in the district semifinals. The second-seeded Wildcats fell to sixth-seeded and district host Lemon Bay, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-25, 15-8.

The Manta Rays will play top-seeded Riverdale in Thursday’s final. The Raiders knocked off LaBelle on Tuesday night.

CLASS 2A-12: Both local teams were eliminated in the semifinals on Tuesday.

No. 3 seed Canterbury knocked off No. 2 seed Seacrest Country Day, 26-24, 25-17, 25-9. Rachel Bowden had 12 kills, three aces and four digs for the Stingrays.

“We were winning, but we made four mistakes, and then it went downhill,” Seacrest coach Duarte Da Silveira said. “However, it was a great season. We made school history. I am very proud of the girls, and their parents are great.”

Top seed and host Evangelical Christian beat St. John Neumann, 25-11, 25-16, 24-26, and 25-14.

Senior Paige Driapsa had 15 kills, 11 digs and seven blocks, and Brittany Giller, Lisa Stephens and Jessica Fernandez also made contributions for the Celtics (8-14).

“The girls got off to a slow start,” Neumann coach Chris Addeo said. “Once they calmed down and realized it was districts, they played really well. They finished the season off with a very strong performance.”
