Local auto racing: Germain's Bodine has tough task in tracking down second place in NASCAR trucks

Todd Bodine, who drives for the locally owned Germain Racing team, has climbed to third in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points standings with three races remaining.

Moving closer to the top is possible, but making up ground even on second place is going to be a battle.

The question will be answered tonight at the Texas Motor Speedway in the Chevy Silverado 350. Points leader Johnny Benson is just 31 ahead of second-place Ron Hornaday Jr., who has 187-point advantage on Bodine.

Qualifying for the Texas race took place Thursday night.

In last week’s E-Z-Go 200 at Atlanta, Bodine started fifth and ended up fourth. Teammate Chrissy Wallace drove the No. 9 Toyota Tundra to a 25th-place finish, which is where she started in the 33-truck field.

Mike Wallace will drive the No 7 Camry owned by Naples’ Bob Germain in Saturday’s Nationwide Series event at Texas. Last weekend in Memphis, Wallace started 11th and finished 14th.
