A former Estero Wachovia Bank branch employee accused of stealing $2,000 has been arrested.

Beverly Ann LeBlanc, 41, of 20317 Sherrill Lane, Estero, met with Lee County sheriff’s detectives Tuesday and was arrested on a grand theft charge. She posted $1,500 bond and was released later that same day.

Deputies were first notified something was amiss on Aug. 4 when Wachovia’s vice president for fraud investigations and the branch manager at the bank at 8700 Corkscrew Road found money was missing from a teller’s drawer dating from July 25. The money was found missing on July 31 when an audit was conducted.

LeBlanc failed to report to work for several days and when she was contacted by the branch manager, she said she was going to file a disability claim and was uncertain when she could return to work, according to an arrest report.

A detective attempted several times to find and speak to LeBlanc. She made arrangements to meet with him Tuesday and admitted to taking the money, according to the report.
