Bonita Middle student arrested for pot possession; boy says he has been 'smoking marijuana since he was six years old'

Corey Hart

Corey Hart

— A 15-year-old Bonita Springs Middle School student was arrested Friday after the school resource officer received a Crime Stoppers tip the boy may have marijuana on him and selling it to other students, Lee County Sheriff’s Office records show.

Corey Hart, of 7313 Albany Road, was arrested on complaints of possession of not more than 20 grams of marijuana and distribution or delivery of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school or child care facility.

The school resource officer told the principal about the Crime Stoppers tip and additional information she received stating he had been selling marijuana to other students. The principal pulled Hart from class and found two baggies with what appeared to be marijuana in them and a third plastic baggie, records show.

The principal told the school resource officer what had been found. She then spoke with Hart, who “said he got the weed (for) himself. He stated he brought the marijuana to school because he lives in San Carlos and was hanging out in Bonita after school and he needed to have it with him,” records show.

“He said he has been smoking marijuana since he was six years old,” the deputy wrote.

If this child has been doing this since he was six somebody has let him down in a big way. Most of us tested those waters but not at 6 !!! I'm very curious as to the parent situation... He needs some guidance & strict rules fast... sounds like he's been on his own for too long... latch key kid??????

He should have been wearing his sunglasses in the day too. That way the school resource officer wouldn't have seen his dilated pupes.

Parents need to be put away for child abuse and neglect. Pronto.

Too much personal information about this boy, his habits, and the possibility that he has been dealing. Bad judgement call on the deputy for offering this information to someone from the press...and even worse judgement on the paper's part for printing the info.

The boy now has something to boast about to his peers, and the possiblity of using this kid as an informant on where he purchased his drugs went down the drain with this article.

Who's 'minding the store' in Bonita Springs Sheriff Scott? How could they disregard SOP for a juvie drug arrest, and alow this information to be published by the press.

Another reality is the drug war is more a CURSE than a cure.

http://www.drugpolicy.org/news/incarc...

http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v08/n3...

The economic forces of the black market are only increased by strong enforcement methods.

The "Drug War" wreaks havoc on our young, our families, our communities, our institutions and foreign nations.

The innocent as well as the guilty suffer the unfortunate consequences of this misguided policy.

The cost is billions of dollars annually, death and disease ( often transmitted to non-users ), public corruption, overcrowded prisons, clogged court systems, destabilization of sovereign governments - and there is no measurable long-term benefit.

When government assumes many duties, it's tougher to do the important ones right.

Florida continues to stuff its prisons, DESTROY people's lives, and WASTE taxes
for non-violent victim-less crimes caused by legislators, state attorneys, police, and sheriff.

Shouldn't this kid be in about 10th Grade?
It reminds me of the commercial about the egg frying in the pan. This is your brain on drugs....
Very Sad.

To rasputin:

You are not worthy of any response by humans.

To jack:

So, anyone, including kids, should be allowed to smoke weed?

Since 6? If this is true, I'd say there WAS some adult supervision. Just not the right kind.

Leadbyexample?? Latchkey kid? Are you kidding - he probably got his pot FROM his parents. Heck! he probably raided their stash in their underwear drawer.

And this kid SHOULD be in either 9th or 10th grade. These kids need to be removed from our schools because they take kids that are borderline and takes them down with them. I'd like to say that all kids are redeemable - fine. But not at the risk of taking other kids down with them.

Can anyone say bootcamp? juvenille hall?

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
