Fewer Collier high school students take SAT but score better

Fewer Collier County high school students are taking the SAT to apply to colleges, but the students are still outpacing their peers statewide. Collier’s SAT verbal, math and writing mean scores for students taking the test in 2007-08 were 503, 511 and 488, respectively. The scores are higher than the state average of 496 verbal, 497 math and 481 writing. Full story »

Former high school principal gets fresh start at new elementary school

Some students at Mike Davis Elementary School got the royal treatment on their first day of school. Not only were they shown the way to their new classrooms, they were taken there by Principal Bob Spano. Spano and other staff members stood in the entrance of the school Wednesday morning to help students and parents get to the right classrooms. “It’s the first day in the first year of a new school,” Spano said. “I guarantee you it won’t be this hectic next year.” Full story »
