Bears’ Cardenas, Irigoyen among local athletes to commit to colleges

Palmetto Ridge baseball players Alberto Cardenas and Anthony Irigoyen have been teammates for the last four years, both starring for the Bears on the mound and in the field. So it seemed only fitting they signed national letters of intent to play college ball together Tuesday, Nov. 18, with coaches, faculty and parents looking on. Full story »

Golden Gate football coach Tanner resigns after 1-win season

After coaching football more than half his life, Dave Tanner said he was tired. More than three decades on the sidelines will do that to a man. Tanner, 56, stepped down as coach at Golden Gate on Friday, handing in his resignation to athletic director Pete Seitz and informing his players he would not be back. Tanner said he is taking a break from coaching, but his resignation is not a full-fledged retirement. Full story »
