James Youngsman, firefighter, and Jim Squittieri, engineer, display one of several banners posted on the sides of fire engines parked near elementary and middle school zones on the opening days of school. Fire trucks will be at schools each morning around 7:45 a.m. and remain until school begins (about one hour). Golden Gate Fire District has more schools than any other area of Collier County. The signs were jointly paid for by the fire district and Golden Gate Professional Firefighters Local 3182.

Instead of starting their first day of school, Joey Surette, Noah Gardner and Michael Martinez enjoyed boating through Gardner’s front yard in the Golden Gate Estates, Aug. 19. Tropical Storm Fay dropped 10 inches of rain on the area, flooding streets and yards.
