On Tuesday, July 7, several American alligators were visible in the canal near mile marker 85 where the FWC held a press conference to discuss the July 1 arrest of a man found poaching alligator eggs. According to Ferraro, an average clutch of alligator eggs contains 35. Forty-nine-year-old Gerald R. Clemons had removed eggs from at least ten different nests, and had 133 eggs in his possession when arrested.
