I've had birthday parties for 6 over the years here, and no more.

The Real Macaw unfortunately had it's best years over 5 years ago, and has been downhill since, due to bad luck (or bad salaries) in getting quality chefs to stay. While they rarely advertised in the beginning being packed by locals, with the downhill spiral of quality, the advertising budget has since picked up a lot, aimed now at the tourist market!

While I love the funky atmosphere of a lushly landscaped large Key West Home, (despite the occasional prostitutes walking past on Bayshore towards better prospects as well), the caged macaws and tropical vegetation can not cover up for mediocre food.

When my dining partners and I were seated here last month, one gentleman noted a strong, foul "nursing home odor"...he was right, it came wafting from the dining room floor outside a nearby bathroom..not a great start...try to avoid seating in this area...if you must visit...

The appetizers were not memorable, nor were the entrees, and these were the main reasons I visited with friends for our birthdays in the past. The drinks are on the watered down side, the bartender seemed clueless about mixing proper drinks, and dessert was nondescript... in the past, we'd each order one, and share!

The owner/hostess (who has been there since the start), is kind and attentive. She has gutted the former airconditioned front dining room and put in a casual open air lounge-bar area, She seems to know she needs to hire a top chef and revive the taste quality of 5-8 years ago, just wait for the newspaper reviewer to say that knight or princess in shining armor has arrived.

Until these changes restore the quality, stay clear of the stale urine odor, mediocre food, and look elsewhere.

This is just another cute "theme" tourist spot in Naples with ok food at not ok prices.

The waitstaff seems like they'd rather be somewhere else...and that's not good for you. Try some of the better rated restaurants for your best bet.

What a great place to go. What a good time and what good luck we had stumbling upon it. The bar tender made me the best "Macaw" juice that was perfect for Happy Hour. He was also the cutest thing on earth. My burger was delicious and the atmosphere is fun and sincerely unpretentious which makes it a great place to go if you are looking for a good time. I Love Naples and I give it 5 stars.

The food is exquisite, not to mention that "Mr. Motown" is one of the best entertainers around!!! If you like the "oldies but goodies" you will love his performances!!!!!!! WE LOVE HIM!!!

Great local place and even better for tourists. While many places in Naples strive for the fun "island" atmosphere & food, The Real Macaw gets it right. Very good prices, very good food, and a great "Keys" atmosphere.

While the smell was fine, if you don't like a "nursing home odor", you should not be in Naples. When one writes a novel for a review, I always wonder why. Are they bored, looking for a job, or trying to settle a grudge?
