jyd,

No argument on Nam being a civil war (I don't believe we should have gotten involved their either; what did our presence there prove?) Germany was more the cause of the political boundaries that were drawn between the communist controlled east and the west and was only solved with the abdication of control by the Soviet Union.

I also agree that no one should live in an oppressed state. We supposedly ended the opression when we kicked Sadaam out. Obviously, that is not the case.

With all respect to you, and your opinions, the point I am trying to make (and God knows, I may be way wrong) is that given the economic conditions of our country, I believe we are wasting precious resources and lives in the Iraq quaqmire.

God Bless the USA!

Junk-

Comparing Iraq to Germany is apples and oranges. Fascist Germany was dedicated to conquering the world at the time. The situation in Iraq is a civil war that "democratic" principles can in no way solve.

I did find humor in your "pull out" comment in your analogy to having sex with an unprotected wife. Did you do that on purpose? Funny stuff!

Peace

I am going to try an insert a bit of sanity into this blog, tho I know I am probably spitting against the wind.

For starters, whether flippers or home buyers, anyone who bought into a low rate ARM and barely qualified for the mortgage (and the payments that went along with it) should have understood that when the payments adjusted, they were going to have grave difficulty in adjusting to it. These low rate ARM's were nothing more than a disaster waiting to happen.

As for the stimulus checks, I firmly believe the result of this will produce nothing. It is a band aid on a hemmorage. Interest rates cuts do nothing to address the inflation that is rampant. The stimulus checks do nothing but delay the inevitable.

When the President and the Congress come to the epiphany that the real issue is inflation; that it is time to put a drill into the ground in Alaska and off-shore of the Gulf, or let loose of our national oil reserves to bring down gas prices; that unemployment is a major issue of concern; that the real estate issue will only be resolved when prices meet demand; and until the budget deficit is addressed, the economy will continue to head in a direction of due south.

I am convinced that the issue of the American economy is a direct result of the billions that have been spent on years of the Iraq debacle. I don't even address the loss of life and limb of our soldiers who have been pressed into this insane gambit.

It is time to let Iraq sink or swim on its own, and get back to the principle of "defending" America, rather than "Spreading Democracy".

Need I say more?

Bonita Bay Group with its' Mediterra, Twin Eagles etc. can in no way be considered as a barometer of the market.

High-end properties have never been affected by the down-turn of the market, nor subjected to the sub-prime mortage fiasco.

It is obvious that many developers purchased acreage when the market was on an out-of-control upswing; now they find themselves unable to profitably develop these properties due to the down-turn. So they continue to struggle to meet debt service on properties that are non-income producing; witness WCI as an example.
Thus, the resulting domino effect leaves sub-contractors with less work (resulting in employee lay-offs); realtors who do not make commissions; etc., etc.

Hopefully the lowering of the prime rate, followed by affordable fixed-rate home mortgage rates will stimulate the sale of properties in the price range of $200K to $500K.

Until this occurs, the market will continue to search for a bottom.

Too many Americans go to bed hungry while we "entertain" ourselves by watching people waste food by stuffing themselves to the point of regurgitation.

What am I missing here?

Once again, NDN presents a "news story" that is nothing more than an advertisement.

I believe that if Sweet Tooth wants to publicize its business, they should buy paid advertising.

This is unfair to competing businesses, and NDN should consider adopting a policy that does not allows these kinds of "news stories".

Does Scripps own this company? Seems like there has been an awful lot of press for a company that's not even in SWFL!

I find it totally unethical that NDN would print/post this article, which is nothing more than an advertisment. It is unfair to competing businesses, unless every business in this category is allowed to post. If this company wishes to advertise in NDN, it should cleary be presented as an ad, and not in the form of a news story that appears on the front page of the site. And, this isn't the first time I have seen this.
