Actually "TB", I am a naturalist. And swflstickers, I have been here longer then you assume- if you don't get it, don't bother blogging until you understand things. Educate yourselves & google Muscovy duck to learn about what a problem they have become in Florida.

The University of Florida has helpful information on the above situation. The most humane way of taking care of this is to remove the eggs, as per their recommendation as well as the opinion of The Conservancy, FL Fish & Game, etc.

Goes to show you the ignorance of the NDN (feel good story) and the stupidity of this realtor. Muscovy ducks are not a native species to Florida. They excrete 1/3 pound of manure daily. They spread fowl cholera, paratyphoid, avian tuberculosis & chlamydiosis to the native birds. All confirmed outbreaks of duck plague in wild ducks have been linked to domesticated ducks.

Someone do us all a favor & remove the eggs when this guy is not looking. It is the most humane way of treating this nuisance situation. If he likes birds so much maybe he should put up some bird feeders or bird houses to encourage the native species to move in to the area.

It is a shame that the taxpayers did not understand the tax amendment (and some of these bloggers). Impact fees are what pay for new fire stations and equiptment. Property taxes are what pay the firefighter salaries. These are two different revenues.

Yes, there are going to be firefighter layoffs and hence a reduction in services. Yes the tax amendment is going to affect the school systems also. Bonita Springs FD seems to have made a wise business move, since when is that wrong? Please educate yourselves in the future before writing incorrect comments.

Pasco County is full of nudie bars and XXX bookstores along their main roads. Let's compare apples to apples here folks. Pasco is loaded with sexual predators and poverty stricken people. The school system is in shambles and traffic has always been a nightmare. My parents & siblings have lived there for thirty years and trust me...Collier County is a jewel compared to Pasco. Hooters would be considered "fine dining" to give you an idea.

Our impact fee amounts are higher and it shows. I would like to see the NDN take a picture of downtown New Port Richey and downtown Naples to show you the difference. Better yet, how about I submit an article to give you the real scoop on the disgtusting filth that goes on in Pasco County? I can guarantee that Collier County residents would rally to increase our current impact fees just so we don't turn into Pasco!

Education is the key here. Fire equiptment is not paid for with your property taxes. Your property tax pays the salaries of the firefighters. Check the website for the North Naples Fire District, www.northnaplesfire.com for a clear answer on how your taxes are utilized. This is an accurate description for all of the Collier County independent fire districts. Collier County citizens should be aware that by not requesting the exclusion of special districts we are hurting ourselves. Other counties will not be affected the same way as Lee and Collier.

By all means, lets send Dan Summers to Iraq. I know plenty of people that would offer to put him on the boat.

No offense to the governor but, I think a nicer gesture then a "thank you", would be to tell all of the independant fire districts he will re-evaluate the possiblity of excluding them from the tax rate drops! Keep up the great work everyone, I am praying for you every day. Thank you!

Perception to the public does mean a lot however, most people are missing the difference on this debate. Fire departments receive a portion of impact fees. Impact fees are what can be used to pay for new buildings and equipment. The legislators in Tallahasse are not debating a reduction of impact fees.

The legislators in Tallahasse want to reduce property taxes. A portion of your property tax (special taxing districts) is what pays our fire department personnel in Collier and Lee counties. Fire departments can not just take the money from one budget and place it into another to cover their personnel payments. Therefore, yes, a 40% decrease means a 40% reduction in payments to firefighters. Not buildings, firefighters. Those who happily go to work every day and put their lives on the line to save ours.

Every citizen in Southwest Florida should contact their legislators and request the exclusion of any reduction to the independant fire districts. We can still benefit from reduced taxes and keep our much valued first-responders.

Do you like the new GGFD headquarters building? I think it is a long overdue and good move (and I do not even live in that area). If you do not like the types of buildings and equipment that your local department are purchasing, you are encouraged to attend their monthly commission meetings. Educate yourself to understand what your money goes to in this county.

Don't listen to these people Sheriff Hunter. I am thrilled with the protection that your staff provides to our community. I like the fact that there are two deputies that live in our neighborhood that bring their vehicles home. It is a deterant to criminals, I think all of these negative comments must be posted by morons.
