Blogger #3 My mistake. Leetrans, has over 50 buses and trolleys covering more than 400 miles of Lee County roadways each day, LeeTran is operated under the authority of Lee County Government and the Lee County Board of Commissioners. LeeTran operates 18 fixed bus routes which last year provided more than 3 million rides to residents and visitors. In addition, LeeTran provides a "Park and Ride" trolley service to and from Fort Myers Beach

I believe LeeTrans, should be the only authority, and overseen by County Commissioners. They are doing a great job, moving over 3.5 million people last year, with only 150 buses. As, I see driving around town, more and more people are sitting and waiting for buses, at bus stops. Ridership seems to me, is rising everyday, and after the elections, when gas will rise again, more people will be riding those buses. I don't believe we need to tax anyone. I believe the "interest" on the 150 million dollars, in county reserves could cover the cost, as more people come on board, fares, and the increase in ridership will pay for the system to become 100 % percent self-sufficient!

People are losing there homes, and BOCC has nothing better to do then waste 4 to 5 million, adding bike lanes. I don't know how I survived the sixties, when no one even knew what bike lanes are, and we're still here alive and well... Get real people. If your giving away that kind of money give it to the people that are now homeless!!!! Didn't we just do "BUY-OUT", in order to save 5 million??? So, is this cash burning holes in their pockets? Bank the Money, or give it back!

Get RID OF PROPERTY TAXES ALL TOGETHER!
As, I told the Fort Myers Realtor Committee last week, during my endorsement interview, I'd, get rid of property taxes for all homesteaders, and raise the sale tax by 2% so EVERYONE pays there fair share. I would offer seasonal residents, a discount programs which they could apply for from the tax collector's office.
I feel there is so much money being wasted on programs, overtime, fuel for city, county, fire departments, and police cars, overpaid employees, and staff, and Libraries, that aren't built yet, and may not be needed for another twenty years, as Millions are sitting in their accounts. Waste, Waste , and more Waste. Enough!
As I mentioned to those Real Estate folks, next year would be a great time to start that sale tax program, since REALLY, NO ONE KNOWS how much anyone's homes are worth, as sales drop off, and we have over 50,000 brand new homes sitting empty, how does anyone really know the true value of any area right now? And, that's suppose to be the way the property appraiser decides the value of homes, by the market, which isn't selling!
So, just like the One Ways Tolls, those folks did a test this year, and found out it works better and cheaper by paying one way. We could do the same starting in 01/01/09, and see how much money in sale tax is coming in after 6 months, and if it looks better then years before has been, keep testing another 6 months, and if we double the tax money from past years then it works! If not no crime no foul, back to the old ways.. There's so much money sitting in County and City bank accounts, that even if it brings in half, we aren't going to crash or burn, people will just have a pay cut, that year!
But again I'm the crazy Candidate!

My idea of creating the Edison, Ford and Harvey Firestone Studio's and Theme Park, would be in Cape Coral, on Burnt Store Road, six miles up from Pine Island Road. Because Burnt Store Road is becoming a Six Lane Rd very soon, and it sits between two airports. Punta Gorda Airport is 10 miles from where I like to build them, and 35 miles from RSW.
Also Burnt Store Road, is 3 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico, so the Millionaires, can come by Yacht. Future hotels like the Ritz, Hilton, and Four Season's, will build marina's, golf, and spa type of hotels, they'll all will be fighting for a spot, near the studio's.
As will Days Inn, Holiday Inn, Motel 6 all family oriented, and priced.. These idea's of mine will bring in billions a year, and jobs for everyone in every field, from Busboy's and Wait staff, bartender's to Brain Surgeons, Lawyers, Studio Teachers, and thousands of other type to many to name. As they say " There's no business like show business"! And, my Twenty Five years in both SAG/AFTRA Unions, can testify to that! There are only two states in our union that are Right to Work states, Florida is one, and Nevada is the second, and who doesn't like "VEGAS"? Another capitol of Entertainment!
Disney World made over 900 Billion Dollars last year, why shouldn't we!
This could happen the day after the Nov. 04, 2008 election, if I get elected.
I'd also get to work on building a High Speed Rail system, heading North and South along the I-75, and east and west from I-75 and Veterans to Burnt Store Road. And, East to Joel and Palm Beach Blvd in Lehigh Acres. And, a quick link from RSW to I-75 so people can travel down to Naples or North to Cape Coral, and Tampa.
Please visit my web site at www.gerarddavidjr.com and post questions in the Guest Book, or e-mail me from there as well. Most of my idea's are listed, and getting rid of property taxes is another one!
Thanks!
