Any parent who has a Freshman Student in college all know to well about the Scholarship Game. The school print-outs of scholarship are primarily, need-based, nationality based, single-parent based, and gender based, learning disability based. (usually with lower expectations). Approx 10% were based on merit and and community service. As much as we try to prepare our children and ourselves for their next level of education you never know what may come up. If it were not for the Bright Futures my son may not be in college right now. Although my husband and I had a modest income last year (which made us ineligible for grants etc.) he was laid off in April. Our income has been depleted by 66%. According to FAFSA we did not quealify for any aid (called and he has to be laid off for 6 month before we can be reviewed based on income.)My son is in a local college now and because we could not afford housing and not knowing what was going to happen, did not want to go into debt. While his buddy's were hanging he was studying and graduated with a 4.8 gpa/3.9 Bright Futures GPA. These kids earn it, regardless what mom and dad make. When in discussions with other parent saying there child got thousand's of dollars to go to colleges because they were ADD with an avg. gpa (usually in special classes) and my child gets nothing because he is white, his parents are married, we work hard for a living and he is an excellent student with no handicap. Leave Bright Futures ALONE!!!! it's all we got.

A park would be nice in Golden Gate Estates. There is no place (other than school facilities) for groups and people to congregate. When I moved out here 13 years ago there was talk of a park similar to Lakes Park in Lee County. Haven't seen nothing yet. the only areas of recreation are the schools which are supposedly turned over to parks & rer after 3:30 pm are locked. The only park is Max Hasse. Come on Collier County, the population does not end at 951, Collier Blvd, or what ever you want to call it. We have enough population to support 5 elementry, 2 middle, and 1 high school. The area around Wilson and Immokolee Rd. Is crying for a park. Something that the lights will be on for us to use without having to pay individually for it. We all pay for the parks in out property taxes. Sure would be nice to have on near us that wasn't having issues with the schools.

I thought they were going to close it down 2 years ago. If you look up manna christian in the search, it brings up real estate transactions. Almost sound like these people are buying up the lots?

I believe it. Still, this is nothing compared to what we went through back in 95. For 2 months the car sat in the road and the van brought us back & forth to the house. The ground was saturated and it rained everyday. It was fun getting the kids to the bus stop. But we did it and didn't complain. back then I only paid $10,000 for 2.5 off of Immokallee & Wilson. Still worth it.

Naplescracker....after that rain yesterday my yard looks just like it did after Fay. Must have been a small line because they didn't get it at Sabal Palm or 951.

Get up and make their lunches mama, if you're so concerned. My kids would pack granola bars etc.

I think all the other schools have 1 lunch period. I think the only year GCHS had 2 was when they had 3600 students. Suck it up BC. Besides alot of clubs hold meetings during lunch which makes it hard with 2 lunches.

To the mother concerned about uniforms. If I'm not mistaken the individual schools choose the colors. Are you an active member of the PTO or other school organizations that may make the decision on school uniforms? If your not, keep your mouth shut. The ones that scream the loudest, are the ones least involved.
