My question is why do people automatically blame the driver for the traffic accident. How does anyone know that there wasn't an equipment malfunction. Maybe the accelerator linkage froze, etc. It was a 1994 model vehicle. There have been numerous recalls on the earlier model Fords.

With an estimated $20,000 in damage to the vehicle I would assume that there was extensive damage to the vehicle making it very difficult to inspect its engine compartment. Without being there or having inspected the vehicles drivetrain how can one speculate so boldly.

Law enforcement does not inspect the mechanical integrity of every vehicle involved in a traffic accident or at the least may miss a malfunction from time to time.

I see your point, a deputy could also want to talk to you about your neighbor as in they are trying to contact them reference an ill family member. I understand all of your points and have no problem with your opinon. I simply do not trust the CCSO and would not answer the door for them, other agencies maybe, them never.

I would call my family and my neighnbor first or maybe call CCSO dispatchers from a cell phone and see if they are looking for me before I ever thought of answering the door for them.

Kealy,

I stated your explainations and or thoughts in my previous posts, and I hope you and Howard have better days ahead. Please never answer the door for deputies again, make them break your door down if they feel the need to, then contact an attorney afterwards.

You may have to obtain an out of county attorney as it is. Good luck to you both and make sure they are not following you both since your complaints. Make sure you have valid drivers licenses before driving if you both don't. Check your vehicles for equipment defects and make sure your tags are good to go.

I get your point as well and I respect your opinon. I say the easiest way to avoid this happening to a person is to simply not answer your door to a deputy unless you have called them there. If they have a search warrant then they will force entry anyway if not then they will eventually leave.

If a deputy knocks on your door, etc then simply ignore them. Do not look out the window at them or let them see you doing so. Do not respond verbally to them through the door either nor answer a call from their dispatchers(usually restricted on caller ID).

There are things that a homeowner can do to reinforce their doors as well. Hinge pins are cheap and easy to install in the hinges of your front door. A deadbolt and two separate L-shaped drop style safety locks can be installed at both the top and the bottom of the front door as well.

There is no reason to answer your door to a deputy if you did not call them to come there. There is no reason to engage a deputy in a consenual conversation on the street either. If one ask to talk to you for a momment simply state "I do not want to talk to you" and keep on about your business.

Dont place you hands in your pockets or raise your voice. Dont offer your identification or stop your forward motion. Know your rights and practice them.

You are missing the point. If they would have taken the name called into on the tip line. Then ran that name/info they could have assertained whether or not a warrant actually existed for someone by that name, etc.

And if it did they could have armed themselves with a photograph and a copy of the warrant before going there. It doesn't look like they did either. I am saying make every attempt to verify and gather photo's, etc before going to the residence.

They did not verify the tip information as I read it. They could have taken the name from the crimestoppers tip and ran that name through their very own files( since the person they were looking for was suppose to be wanted out of collier county).

That would have provided them with a photo prior to going to the residence. Then when she opened the door they could have realized that the male they said they saw peak around the corner was not the wanted man.

And most of important if they had checked first before going over to the apartment they would have realized no warrant existed under the name called in to crimestoppers. They obviously did neither.

I say never open your door for LEO'S unless you called them their.
