Has anyone looked at the underlying motive of the company "Waveplace Foundation" which is making all the money from "bringing digital media skills and education software"...? They sell software to be used on the machines. Remember, the goal of one laptop per child is to distribuite millions of these machines worldwide. That is a lot of software "money". Not for profit does not mean that directors and officers don't earn a sizable salary for operating such companies. Remember that NCH is a "not for profit" company like many others. How much is their CEO paid? Has anyone determined whether Mr. Coine has any relationship with this Waveplace "not for profit" and or his business motivation in this program? He appears to be a pretty savvy business man. Check out his websites and blogs and Waveplace on google.

Last, but not least, who is teaching these "virgin" computer users internet safety and protection from online preditors? Certainly not their parents who have never used computers before.

Bloggers,

Note that if the allegation is true that the business owner did not have workers' compensation insurance as required by any business employing more than three workers or any construction related company employing one or more, then the exclusive remedy provision in the workers' comp statutes would have given the employer immunity (against this civil suit) regardless of fault of the employee or the employer unless they can prove absolute willful negligence that would have been known to the employer to cause death or serious injury....

That having been said, these personal injury firms particularly Morgan and Morgan, are still trying very hard in catastrophic cases, no matter what is the fault or circumstances, to pierce the immunity statute in too many cases because the lawyer fees in comp cases have diminshed greatly since reform was passed in 2003.

That may all change soon with a pending ruling from the Florida Supreme Court that will open up the goldmine in legal fees on comp once again. The rates have gone down by 50% since reform saving business owners millions of dollars since 2003.... so hang on to our wallets!

The reason there are few jobs for teens (those willing to work that is) has much to do with the continued escalation of the minimum wage. Democrats think that people are trying to raise a family of five on a minimum wage job which is simply not true in reality. That segment of the population is living off the Democrat's goverment entitlement programs. The result, fewer and fewer minimum wage part time jobs available for teens and students, and many business folding due to the inability to pay the rent after paying more than market wages for dipping an ice cream cone.

I pray that one of the most important components of their computer training (for the children and their parents or guardians)is child safety on the internet. With all of the predators lurking online and children new to some of the evils of technology, they should mandate internet safety training as their first priority. Florida's new anti-bullying legistation won't be enough to protect these young children in their new technical "learning" environment.

Dear Editor Hardwig,

I left you a voice message earlier this week letting you know that my golf partner Wayne scored a very rare double eagle 2 on Saturday at Heritage Bay golf club on the par 5 480 yard hole number 20. This happens fewer than several hundred times a year in the U.S.A compared to nearly 40,000 holes-in-one. Can you please return my call and report this "news worthy" event and share it with your readers? Every one I have told the story to are truly amazed at this rare feat indeed. I thought the call would be more appropriate than "sending you an e-mail" and that the NDN would be inclined to do a story on this accomplishment.

Brad, I am not sure how old you are, but I am under 55 and it was not that long ago that brown paper bags were the norm in the grocery store. Then the extreme opinions of some suggested we were killing too many trees and damaging the air with the paper processing plants. So these bright young people said use these great plastic bags to save the earth. Now they (the bags) are the scurge along with our plastic water bottles. When are we going to realize that every environmentalist's crusade should be thought through before we "jump" off the cliff like lemmings on thier "opinion". If enough people repeat (the media) an opinion we then automaticaly accept it as fact taking radical steps in a worse direction.
