Gyrene is a term to identify a U.S.Marine. Although the entomology is unknown, it is thought to be a combination of G.I. and Marine. It is supposed to have originated in the late 1800's, in the U.S. Navy, as a derogatory term for Marine but the Marines loved it and it is used along with Grunt and Jarhead as nicknames for Marines.
Why Ave Maria uses it as a sports nickname-I haven't a clue and think it's rather stupid. I've never heard of a sports team with that nickname.

I cannot begin to imagine the damage that will be wrought to America under the rule of Queen Pelosi, her consort Prince Reid and the court jester-in-training, Obama.
Hard-working men and women will have to do everything possible to hide their wages and savings from the clutches of these socialists who want nothing else than to "distribute the wealth" to non-working indolents and immigrants, soon to be new, grateful democrat voters.

I agree! Cut the grandmother some slack. Let's build even more casinos so more folks can lock their grandchildren in cars while they gamble. Better yet, let's train and arm all our responsible fourteen-year-olds and rent them out to foreign armies, thereby generating more cash to donate to casino owners and investors. Brilliant, frankz!

9. Livingston Road at Orange Blossom Drive -- Speeding
Doesn't seem to be doing any good. This morning I drove south on Livingston from Vandy to Golden Gate and at 45mph I was constantly in danger of being run down by the speeders. EVERYONE passed me. Not a deputy in sight.
In fairness to the CCSO, I did see deputies in two cruisers and four cycles yesterday on westbound Vandy, just west of Logan, writing out citations for 6 speeders. Nice job guys!!! Thank you!
