I have over 25 years experience as an HR manager and am concerned about Mr. Ortino's constant use of the word "meritocracy". Aside from the fact that he can not pronounce the word correctly, I don't understand why he would be supporting a meritocracy. Subjective reviews of performance alone should NOT be used for promotion and its no wonder no local unions endorse him! All contemporary literature in HR management calls meritocracy the "last bastion of discrimination" in the business world today. This sure isnt what I want for my most important local government agency!

Vote Rambosk...I already did!

On Guest commentary: Experience more than qualifies me to be sheriff

Posted on August 12 at 10:32 p.m.

I already voted for Kevin but I was horrified to hear tonight that Mr. Ortino's budget plan will cut 400 deputies from the department. 400 deputies! How can he be taken seriously when he thinks that will be OK in a county our size? And the awful things he said about the deputies tonight was just terrible.

Great job Kevin in adding the NDN endorsement to your very long list of impressive professional organizations that back you.

Still voting for Kevin Rambosk.

My faith in the Naples Daily News has been restored! So glad they recognize a quality candidate for such an important office. Not that there was even a choice.

Still voting for Kevin Rambosk...and looks like everyone else with a brain is too!

Thank you Mr. Rambosk for your clear and concise answers tonight.

There were so many business professionals in the audience tonight and all were talking about how you are the only qualified candidate for Sheriff. I know some in the audience were restaurant owners and managers and were very offended by Mr Ortinos comment that you can buy drugs in any restaurant in Naples. What an irresponsible and untrue thing to say about our local businesses.

I am definitely voting for Kevin.

Mr Rambosk knows that the two most important things in a campaign are honesty and integrity.

On Collier County Sheriff candidates raising big bucks

Mr Ortino and his supporters appear to be hypocrites. Complaining about the truthful blog revelations yesterday concerning his family and this is how they respond by sending faxes on old news already reported by the Sheriff's Office? No morals in that campaign at all.

I am so impressed with Kevin's moral character. I suppose with a group of 1400 employees that some have troubled children but they arent the ones running for such an important office. Now this comes out about Mr. Ortino's daughter. How sad for him that the "mentoring" of children he claims he did in his martial arts business wasn't taking place in his own home.

Still voting for Kevin Rambosk.

I have an HR background and decided to do a little research on my own about the turnover rate. I think Mr. Ortino is wrong on this one. The Sheriff's Office 8.7% turnover rate with deaths and retirements is a well publicized number that was even confirmed by at least two independent firms. I was shocked to learn that all other businesses in Collier County have a turnover average of over 25%. The Sheriff's Office is doing a GREAT job with retention.

They have even won 2 awards back to back for Best Places to Work after being independently audited for HR practices, benefits, etc. Check out this article on the award for this year
