Rev. Wicker,
While I agree that the funds given to Hospice should be use for the care of those near their end, there is perhaps another side of the spending you may not have seen. The cost-benefit of advertising may be high enough to yield more donations and funding simply by getting their name out there to a larger group of people that may not be aware of the local Hospice center. While the advertising does indeed cost money, it is funds they have already obtained. I haven't seen their financial records, Rev. Wicker, have you? Every dollar spent on advertising may yield them $2 in return. You say that competition is the reason for advertising, but I must disagree. Increasing profits(commercial) or donations(non-commercial) by making people aware is the goal of advertising. In a competitive market ads are designed to sway you from one company to another, but for a non-profit advertisements are used to inform people. How many commercials/print ads/other media have you seen for March of Dimes? Feed The Children? United Way? Goodwill? United Christian Giving? Or any of the other numerous non-profit and not-for-profits organizations? We're inundated with it - but there is a reason they do it. If it didn't yield a greater return than the money spent, they wouldn't do it.

Your complete lack of understanding of "texting" is proof enough that you don't send text messages. Did you really need to write an article about this?

Only a very small subset of people send text messages in that manner. A great majority of people not only 'text' in full and complete sentences, but they use proper spelling and punctuation as well.

The increase in popularity of more advanced phones (aka 'smart phones') such as Palms, Blackberry's and iPhones has allowed people to more easily 'text' without using all of the abbreviations. Non-smartphones were the norm when texting started, and the way to enter letters/numbers through multiple keypresses of the same key is what led to the shorthand. It was truly a pain back then. I rarely sent texts on a non-smartphone due to the cumbersome nature of input, but now with a smartphone where full thoughts and ideas can be expressed properly I text much more. And I use full sentences, correct spelling, punctuation and NO shorthand.

CapeCodder;
The sentence is worded that the individuals are from Collier, not the company. MANY Port Charlotte companies do business in Lee and Collier. Lee/Collier are not an island unto themselves.

As for the douchebag reference - Did I use any pejorative terms in reference to you? No. Kindly behave as an adult and keep it civil. Assclowns like you are why the comment sections frequently get derailed.

Whoops - There goes the namecalling in my post as well. Oh-well. Deal with it.

There are 7 ACTIVE companies in Florida that are "Spectrum Painting".

The specific one referenced in the story is out of Port Charlotte and it's docs are here: http://sunbiz.org/scripts/cordet.exe?...

What The Contractor Says:
"the contractor was compelled to outsource after being unable to find enough local talent to get the job done."

What The Contractor Means:
"the contractor was compelled to outsource after being unable to find enough local talent at the wage he was willing to pay."

There is an enormous amount of technical talent in Southwest Florida, but nobody down here wants to pay what it takes. I was once told by a hiring manager: "I would love to hire someone with your skill set, but I can hire somebody with 2/3rds the skills for half the money." That was 8 years ago, and it's only gotten worse since. Good thing I changed career paths.

Actually, Naplestango, Bald Eagles are still on a protected list. Two lists, in fact. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Bald And Golden Eagle Protection Act.

While no longer endangered, they are still protected. And as you'll notice if you visit http://www.fws.gov/laws/lawsdigest/ba..., the removal of nests is allowed for Golden Eagles under two circumstance, but it's not allowed at all for Bald Eagles.

The allowance to build AROUND the eagles is what is now allowed since they're no longer endangered. It helps to remember that ENDANGERED is not the same as PROTECTED.
