Whole Foods is nice, but I think the true test of whether or not you "arrived" as a metropolis is when Ikea builds one of their massive lifestyle stores in your city.

I wasn't sold on her speech. She seemed very nervous and unprepared. There were countless times that she was lip-smacking after sentences and her voice got rather pitchy. This was just an analysis on her presentation.

What a bunch of whining! "Kids deserve better treatment"... WHAT!?! A majority of these kids in this high school are among the most privileged in the county - if not state - and generally the WORLD! They are spoiled brats driving a BMW that daddy bought for their 16th birthday! But thats not the point. Kids go to school to learn first, socialize second - and only if they deserve it. Thats the problem with America today - NO DISCIPLINE OR RESPECT!! Our kids are a mess! No wonder kids in Europe and Asia are smarter - heck even those in parts of South America are doing better!
What on God's green Earth make our kids so special that they must not bust their butts with hard work and discipline? Though there are a few that actually do, it should be mandatory especially in school. Those who refuse - its off to the tomato fields you go (look I solved the immigration issue!) where an education is not necessary and they can make a career out of it.
I don't completely believe that schools should be teaching discipline in the first place, but when families don't and they spawn beast-like waste who dont contribute to society, someone must make an effort to attempt to civilize them.
A one-hour lunch period can work if students and staff are organized enough to make it work. I wish that I had a lunch period similar to this when I was in school. Instead of trying to make it work, it seems as if there are some who continue to complain and ruin it for all of the students. All those parents, students, and school staff need to stop whining and just adjust their lives, schedule, ect. to make it work. Its ultimately a life lesson because the world does not listen to such petty stuff like this. Just do what is expected of you in an academic environment.

WE the people need to wake up and take down the RepubliCrats - two sides to one coin! That's the only way for REAL change. America is rapidly falling apart and people choose to remain in blissful ignorance. Clean house in DC and we just might have a way to keep our Republic from falling into obscurity. Our nation baffles me on how we foolishly believe that these candidates will cure our problems.

"There should be a distinction made between education and training. Most "go to college" to get training, not an education. This is good for the colleges, because true education is free. All it takes is curiosity, a library card and hours of quiet reflection. A lot of travel doesn't hurt."
Though I agree with your statement ecoterror, I must add that being in an intellectual environment that a university can provide helps expand ones education. It also helps broaden ones knowledge and opens your mind to a diverse world of ideologies and opinions. Outside of the college classroom, it is very difficult to find that intellectual atmosphere especially when much of society is superficial and embraces idiocracy.

I don't see Publix filing for bankruptcy anytime soon because that store has a hardcore following. As the economy continues to slip, and people start squeezing every penny by shopping at Walmart Supercenter, Super Target, and new competition by a booming Sweetbay Supermarket, their profits won't be as great as it has been.

McCain or Obama...America is doomed. I don't understand why so many people choose to look through rose-tinted glasses at the Democrats and Republicans - they never are truly for the people, but only corporations, globalism, and ultimately a new world order - they don't represent Americans anymore. The only change that would matter and to finally right this ship is if all of the politicians and lobbyists are removed from Washington and WE THE PEOPLE declare a new republic. If we never do this, America will be destined to fall into obscurity and the backbone of this nation, our vast middle class will perish.

If you actually follow UCF football then you know that O'Leary has changed the ethic of that team by leaps and bounds by making it disciplined, tough, and cleaning up the bad image of academic and behavioral problems on this team. He is not going anywhere soon from this program. This was a freak accident that could have happened ANYWHERE and those wanting to sue UCF need to just accept the fact that God decided it was Planchers time to go.

"Look out Southwest Florida — there might just be a new football team to beat in Collier County."
These things go in cycles around here. Naples High has been at the top of there game for most of the past decade, Barron before them, and before them it was Lely. Maybe its Lely's turn again - or will Palmetto Ridge come join the BIG 3?
