My wife and I went to this game and had a great time! It's so good to see this first-year team playing so well. We're proud of "our" Gyrenes! (We can see Ave Maria Grammar and Prep, where the home games are played, from our house.)

Quote: "Probably going to be a long time until they are accredited and play in the post-season. Too bad they seem more interested in sports than academics."
What nonsense! Ave Maria University has made it quite evident that as important as sports is, building a Christian academic institution is its first priority. And AMU IS accredited, though not yet by the SACS. That will come soon enough. Accreditation requires many steps and is not an overnight process. All new schools go through the same series of events. Rome wasn't built in a day.

My wife and I enjoyed the game and we'll be looking forward to the next one. The Gyrenes have some work ahead of them, as might be expected for such a young team, but they have plenty of enthusiasm, as do the fans! Next time, we'll try to get seats with the rest of the AMU crowd so we can better participate in the cheering! AMU also needs cheerleaders, maybe next season.

I am delighted that this passed. Now we in Florida won't be subjected to those vomit-inducing scenes of same-sex "marriage" emanating from Massachusetts and California (where Proposition 8 looks like it just might pass — guess they had to learn the hard way.) I like it here in Florida and I'd have hated to be forced to sell our house and move to someplace where marriage and family is held in higher esteem. There IS hope!

Out of fairness to AMU, I would like to share the URL for their very new Athletics website, where information about upcoming games can be found. STILL: Better communication with the community would be nice. The kids from AMGP often go through the community door-to-door and attach fliers to doorknobs advertising their events. The college students could do the same. That is, if you'd like a good turnout.

Was this game a SECRET? I learned about it on November 3rd from Liam Dillon of the Naples News during a phone conversation. In fact, ever since we moved to Ave Maria over a year ago, we've found out more about what's going on here in Ave Maria from Liam than we have from the University staff. I think they should put him on the payroll as a publicity/PR man! He'd certainly do better than the incompetent people handling those functions now. I can look right out my window and see Ave Maria Grammar and Prep where the game was played. It is a five-minute walk from our house. If AMU can't inform Ave Maria residents about their home games, then the only explanation is that they don't want us there. Is this "town and gown" elitism? Oh, they make sure to contact us when they're looking for donations. Then they manage to find us.

My wife and I will be voting "Yes" on Proposition 2. All it does, is affirm the legal definition of marriage as it has been understood from time immemorial. It is necessary because of what has happened in Massachusetts, California, and Connecticut, where a few judges have rent the social fabric through arbitrary rulings that go against the wishes of the people and our Judeo-Christian heritage. This amendment would deny NO ONE their rights. Any legal rights afforded by marriage can be conferred contractually. The idea that this would deny hospital visitation rights, rights of inheritance, etc., is a red herring. People have left their estates to their pets; they can certainly leave them to their domestic partner without benefit of marriage. And hospital visitation rules are just that, rules. They are not dependent on laws or legal status. The hospitals make whatever rules they like. Family life is in trouble in America and people had better defend traditional marriage before our culture goes the way of the Roman Empire and every other civilization that self-destructed because it ignored the rules of nature.
On POLL: Amendment 2 - Will vote change what marriage means in Florida?

Quote: "Can we encourage them to stay away from Planned Parenthood and keep their religious views to themselves? I hear the little brats are there very weekend protesting."
1.) AMU students do not "protest," they pray. Look up both terms in your dictionary if you do not know the difference.
2.) "little brats"?! I suppose the university students in Germany who were members of the White Rose organization and went to prison for distributing leaflets against the Nazis (and, thereby, the Holocaust) were "brats," too, by your definition.
